Improving Energy Efficiency Performance with M&V
The M&V process promotes optimal energy management practices, enhancing savings and financial opportunities. A robust M&V framework ensures accurate performance measurement and sets clear benchmarks for improved project performance. This fosters project cohesion and establishes a structured protocol for efficient project design, operation, and maintenance. Such practices frequently yield greater energy savings compared to projects lacking a comprehensive M&V process, thereby reducing project risks and bolstering the business case for Energy Efficiency Measures (Northmore Gordon, 2022).
Effective M&V also enables managers to identify and mitigate maintenance and operational issues, thereby improving facility management. Additionally, robust M&V processes offer valuable insights for refining future project designs (EVO, 2024).
Assist in Evaluating Utility or Government Efficiency Programs
Utility or government programs overseeing energy supply systems can employ M&V techniques to assess savings at specific energy user facilities. Through statistical methods and other assumptions, the savings measured at these facilities can extrapolate to estimate savings at unmonitored sites, enabling comprehensive reporting on the program's overall performance (EVO, 2024).
